Gardenia Advocates Healthy Eating and Proper Hand Washing

Gardenia Bakeries strengthens its partnership with the Philippine Red Cross Laguna Chapter (PRC), and the Department of Education Division of Laguna (DepEd) with the continued “Nutrisyon at Kalinisan para sa Maayos na Kinabukasan” program (Nutrition and Sanitation for a Better Future Program) for 2019.

Gardenia recently kicked off the nutrition and sanitation campaign to Grades 1 – 3 pupils of San Pedro Central School in Laguna. This program aims to educate the students with healthy eating and the proper way of hand washing.

The program started with the step by step process of the proper way of hand washing and how it can make a person healthier by having a good personal hygiene. The activity also included healthy eating and benefits of active lifestyle discussion with Gardenia’s registered nutritionist, Margarita Rubio. “It is important to have a balanced diet and be active in extracurricular activities to stay healthy.” Rubio explained.

Gardenia’s Customer Relations Assistant Manager Quennie Comple, also emphasized the importance of this program to pupils. “This project will not only help the students with their physical health, but will also help them with their emotional and mental health as they can be more active if they’re feeling good and healthy,” Comple asserted.

Dr. Josilyn Solana, the Schools Division Superintendent affirmed, “With our partners, Gardenia and Red Cross, we can help students by educating and showing them the benefits of healthy eating and proper way of hand washing.”

Gardenia and its partners will continue to support schools to help promote a healthier and a better lifestyle for the students starting at an early age. Like Laguna’s Chapter Administrator of PRC, Frank Gray Sorromero said, “PRC and Gardenia have developed a strong relationship over the last 3 years. As we continue with this project, Gardenia and PRC will continue to strengthen its partnership and we look forward to having new partners to improve and develop this project as we go on.”

Gardenia already catered to 197 schools with a total estimate number of 69,000 students since the partnership has started. Gardenia, together with its partners, will continue to do this project and put a smile on the faces of the students.
